Changing ownership with NZTA

When a car is sold, the seller and the buyer each need to tell NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.

Seller

• Notify NZTA straight away that you've sold the vehicle. Until you do, you may be liable for tolls and infringements.
• You'll need the plate and the buyer's details.

Buyer

• Confirm you've acquired the vehicle within the required time.
• Check the rego (licence) is current, or relicense it.
